Million To One; How do you coordinate 1,000,000 tiny Silverside Fish to swim in the pattern you need to capture the photo you want to create? It’s simple, you dance with them. @camilajaber and I had to “dance” with the fish, coordinating our movements to get the fish to encompass us. The most challenging part about this is that with there being so many fish, they surrounded me and completely blocked my view of Camila! To counter this, I had to lean in, pushing my camera through the fish towards Camila to make an opening, then retract to my position to compose the photo. Meanwhile, Camila waved her arms around in 4-5 second intervals to change the direction and pattern that the fish swam until they formed how we needed them to. If that wasn’t already enough to work around, we also had to watch out for the highly venomous and amazingly well-camouflaged group of Scorpionfish that laid motionless on the rocks nearby trying to hunt and eat the un-assuming Silversides that come too close. (Swipe for a video of the scorpionfish) I’ll be posting a behind-the-scenes Instagram reel of this shoot on the weekend to show you this caption in motion. How many takes do you think this photo took? Leave your assumptions in the comments.
