A few weeks ago I had the chance to photograph whales off the coast of Monterey and I was BEYOND excited. In a different life, I would’ve been a marine biologist.🐬 Our first 15 mins off the coast we were met by hundred of Risso Dolphins swimming our way and one lone albino Next up we’re humpbacks and one very shy blue whale. The size and beauty of these massive animals was insane to witness in person. Kind of terrifying to look under our small boat and see the giant white fin gliding underneath though I can’t lie. As a shooter I found this incredibly challenging. I’m a planner. I love to plan shots and productions and to KNOW what I want and how I want it. But the nature of this type of photography is the anthesis of how I normally like to create. I think I did an okay job. It was uncomfortable and challenging and so much damn fun. I will come back, learn more and do better. 🫡 This trip was really one I will always remember. To combine a childhood passion with a current one is truly life coming full circle for me. Thanks to friends and guides @dolphindronedom @erica.sackrison & @oceanicexpeditions. I learned so much and the vibes we’re incredible. Sorry I am pretty quiet dude when I get excited. 😅 And always thank you to brother @jyshih21 for inviting me out. Blessed to have you as a mentor/friend. But Im salty you got that breaching photo on your second trip I didn’t go to 👊🏼 Haha I’ll catch it on the next one though. Believe it. 🐋
