When I saw my parents working hard to pave a way for my siblings and I. I knew it would be in my best interest to choose my steps wisely because of their sacrifices. When I saw Sheila E on TV at the age of 5 I knew I had chosen drums as the right path. When I saw the Janet tour in high school with Lil John Roberts on the drums I knew I wanted to pursue music as a career. When I saw Jackie Joyner running track, I knew I could do it, even with my asthma. When I saw women play professional basketball I knew I could tryout for Division 1 basketball at Appalchian State University as a walk on where was awarded a scholarship for 1 year. When I saw others receiving scholarships amd awards for their musical talent Intold myself I would go back to school for my masters on a full ride and I did (even though I had to circumvent many who were a road block, including my own self) When I saw Terri Lyne and Cindy Blackman command a band behind the drums on TV and in the classroom I knew I was still on the right path. What Viola says is legit! Sometimes you have to be the one who manifests others dreams. Sometimes you’re the one that creates a spark instead of waiting to be sparked.
