Iron is an essential element that is required for taking oxygen around the body on certain red blood cells. And women are more predisposed to having low iron and low ferritin which is your storage form of iron. Part of it is through menstruation, and part of it is as we get older and we have more systemic inflammation (especially in peri- and post-menopause). What we do know, is that there are different steps we can take to improve our iron absorption. (more info at https://bit.ly/3X30RTa) 1. Try to get more iron-rich foods earlier in the day. 2. If supplementing, take it every OTHER day, preferably first thing in the morning. 3. Increase our natural food sources of iron because those tend to be the best bioavailability forms to actually increase our body's ability to absorb them.
