@troonwines is back in town! Nate Winters is making the rounds in Vermont then down here in NYC for @rawwineworld . We're always delighted to have Nate on this coast. Troon Vineyard is a big part of our developing American portfolio. The vineyards are situated in Oregon's Applegate Valley where they craft wines steeped in biodynamic and regnerative agriculture. Their mission is to give back to the plants and soils. The winery sits on the Kubli Bench high above the Applegate River in the Siskiyou Mountains of Southern Oregon. Oregon was shaped by a millenia of floods, earthquakes, fire, and volcanic eruptions. The movement of oceans and continents created high elevation benchlands like Kubli which is alluvial with course and shallow soils surrounded by bedrock that is mostly granitic, great geology for wine. The Siskiyou Mountains are a coastal subrange of the Klamath Mountains and form a barrier between the watersheds of the Klamath River and the Rogue River and shapes the surrounding national forests. These mouintains are not the highest of the Klamath Mountains but due to the relief so close to the Pacific Ocean, the peaks receive significant precipitation, including wintertime snow. Western canyons can receive up to 100 inches of rain in some winters, and are densely forested, while eastern areas are much more arid and almost dessert-like. The greatly varied topography and climate contribute to high biodiversity, perfect for the biodiverse farm of 100 acres that includes the cider apples, vegetable gardens, re-wilded honeybees, sheep, chickens, wildlife, dogs, humans, and of course grapevines that make up Troon. At RAW, Nathan will be pouring reds and whites in addition to their amphora Rolle and the Rhone inspired Cotes du Kubli. Come say hello!
