Back to @berlinbiennale ... Station 7: Jesus Falls for a second time All of the paintings that depict Jesus falling are constructed similarly. He falls in a smokey pink tropic amidst purple primates and a sky permeated with fighter jets. I wanted to emphasize the repetitious nature of these falls. I’m also thinking about repetition and story telling, particularly how powerful the Stations of the Cross is because it is told again and again. If you look closely, you’ll see that Jesus is wearing a mask suggesting this is not Him but more likely a reenactment. I probe: how can the retelling of stories be both a way of preserving tradition and a strategy for conquest? The later pictures show a detail and images of reenactments around the Philippines and the Feast of Black Nazarene in Manila.
