Have you tried the #lowfodmap diet and found that you still experience symptoms? Share below ⬇️ . . I often tell my clients that it isn’t always all about FODMAPs 🛑 There are many potential dietary (and non-dietary) IBS triggers 👇 . . 🧈 Fat: This doesn’t mean that yo I should avoid dietary sources of fat - they’re important! Just monitor how you feel after high-fat meals and try evenly distributing your fat intake throughout the day and limiting your fat intake if you find it to be bothersome for you . 🥗Fiber: Similar to fat, you don’t want to avoid fiber. However, modifying the type and amount and evenly distributing your fiber throughout the day can be helpful. Oftentimes, we can include plenty of fiber if we focus on sources that contain the right type for you! Modifying texture can also be helpful . ☕️Caffeine: Caffeine can be helpful for those with constipation, but it may exacerbate symptoms for those with diarrhea and in both scenarios, some people are sensitive to caffeine and experience unpleasant symptoms. Some people also find that a lower acid coffee, despite caffeine content, is tolerated better . 🌶Spicy food: Although a food may be suitable for the low FODMAP diet, it’s possible that spicy foods may exacerbate symptoms so it’s best to assess your individual tolerance . 🍸Alcohol: Alcohol is a gastric irritant and, while many types of alcohol are suitable for the low FODMAP diet (in moderation!) it is a common IBS trigger . 🍽Improper meal spacing: I typically recommend eating balanced meals/snacks spices ~3-4 hours apart to allow time for adequate digestion, reduce bloating and distention and distribute intake throughout the day . .
