The Reelworld Film Festival is back for its 22nd edition, with the curtain rising Wednesday night with the opening film ‘Golden Delicious’ by filmmaker Jason Karman. • Reelworld’s mission from day one has been to feature 100 per cent Canadian filmmakers who are Black, Indigenous, Asian, South Asian and people of colour. Founder Tonya Williams says she started the festival more than two decades ago after struggling to make a living as a young Black actor in Toronto. • Williams shares how the festival has evolved since then — now offering year-long programming on professional development as well as research and advocacy work. • Plus, @ourtorontocbc host @ShannonMartinTV speaks with Ron Dias and Joanne Jansen about their new project, ‘Bite of a Mango.’ The film is a coming-of-age story about four friends during the early days of the pandemic. • The Reelworld Film Festival is on now at several venues across Toronto until Oct. 18. • • • 📄: Shannon Martin/CBC 📸: Reelworld Film Festival/Bite of a Mango/Ron Dias 🎥: Laura Pedersen/CBC Editor: Julia Whalen/CBC #cbctoronto #cbcto #Toronto #Film #Reelworld #ReelworldFilmFestival #FilmFestival
