In 1823, a German princess named Henriette of Nassau-Weilburg celebrated this custom with her family here in Vienna - She was the wife of the nephew, adopted son and universal heir of the founder of the Albertina: Archduke Carl managed the Albertina’s collection from 1822 to 1847. It was at that time, that they celebrated within our very walls and even though it was thought to be protestant, it found great favor at the Viennese court. Thus the tradition was born. 🎄
