@elknows 🕊 • we met backstage at a @worldsfair show at PS1 in 2018 and instantly hit it off. I remember thinking how stunning you were, how effortlessly cool your style was, and assumed you must be a model. you laughed at this assumption and said that you’re actually more of a “behind-the-camera kind of girl”, and that your passion was photography. at the time when we met you only had 3 months left on your visa so our IRL friendship in NY was short-lived, but still so memorable. when you asked if you could come over to photograph me on film for a project you were putting together I of course, said yes. 🙏 this is a photo from that day in my old bushwick apartment. we did a few different looks, playing around in my closet while listening to music, drinking tea, and talking about our dreams and visions for the future. it was a chilly, sunny thursday morning. you really liked this photo, but I wasn’t a fan. I thought I looked weird and so we opted for the others and it never saw the light of day, until today. you said you wanted to capture me in my “natural state” and looking back at this now, I would have to say that weird is most definitely my natural state and so, this photo, like you had said all along—was perfect. 🥹🥲❤️‍🔥 we never see ourselves as we actually are, only a distorted version filtered through a self-critical lens. just like you laughed at me assuming you were a model, I couldn’t see then that you did in fact, really capture my spirit in this photograph. you captured everyone’s spirit. your work was incredible... incredible is an understatement! we kept in touch over the years with talks of coming to visit NZ at some point as I’ve never been and really want to go. you always supported my music and would share or comment sweet, encouraging words on all of my new projects. you were a real supporter of your fellow woman, a real girls girl! your authenticity, your talent, your light... everything in the world is so sad right now. I’m so sorry this happened to you and your dad, you deserved better and I am praying for you and your family during this heavy time. 💔 cont/ in comments
