We’re starting the ST. PADDY’S PARTY early at Asheville’s oldest Irish pub this weekend — with Irish punk rockers 1916 making their @jackofthewood debut this SATURDAY NIGHT 3/16 at 9pm! With roots in upstate New York AND Nashville, 1916 is an explosive concoction of the modern Irish Punk movement and an original mix of psychobilly that together deliver a uniquely explosive sound in the Celtic punk genre. Starting as an acoustic duo in 2006, singer Billy Herring & original drummer Steve LaDue played traditional Irish ballads in local Rochester-area pubs, taking their name from a pivotal moment in Irish history. By 2010, they’d added electric guitars, traditional instruments, & a full drum set into the mix — and were soon opening for the likes of the Dropkick Murphys, 21 Pilots, and New Politics. Mandolin player Jon Kane, with his energetic stage persona, joined the band in 2016. Upright bassist Ryan Hurley & accordion player Sam Sarratori came on board the next year, bringing a new psychobilly flavor to the 1916 sound. Herring relocated to Nashville to get the band’s momentum reenergized post-Covid, with the thundering drums of Chad Paetznick soon joining the crew. 1916 has been touring and recording music from go, with their third studio album, “Last Call for Heroes” named one of the best punk albums of 2016 on multiple year-end lists. The band has most recently partnered with Grammy-award winning producer Ted Hutt on their sixth full-length album, “Conscience of Kings”. The party starts at 9pm! $10 cover at the door.
