Mahalo to @himb_soest for all of the work you do and allowing me to witness last nights coral spawning 🧜🏽‍♂️ The work that is happening in this lab is so crucial to the future health of Hawaii’s coral reefs. As the ocean temperature of Hawaii’s water continues to rise the threat to coral is greater than ever before. When you consider that roughly 3 out of every 4 breaths we take here in Hawaii comes from the ocean, coral is a crucial resource not only to our ocean ecosystem but to our daily life as island people. We at @hulithemovement have entered into a partnership with HIMB and Chaminade @lupita_jean to co-ordinate community action into helping to one day out-plant some of these keiki coral back into our local reefs of Maunalua Bay in an effort to try and repair the damage done by years of overdevelopment and human impact on our shoreline reefs.
