i have many words yet none that truly encapsulate what being in Colombia has meant for me during this chapter of my life ~ one thing that has surfaced unexpectedly for me has been mourning + grieving the physical absence of my maternal grandmother, mi mamita Blanca after many years after her departure on this plane.⁣ ⁣ it’s been bittersweet being here, now 6 months pregnant, without her here to witness my growing belly + the changes unseen to the eye, occurring within my entire psyche as i transition into motherhood.⁣ ⁣ the irony is, i still feel her presence with me everywhere i go. she is the wind, the trees, the river... the smell of pandebonos + buñuelos being baked next door. she lives amongst strangers that walk past me, glancing at my exposed baby bump and sharing a smile in reaction.⁣ ⁣ here’s to our ancestors paving the way + guiding us towards our highest path. may we find solace knowing we are never alone.
