This video is from 2020, when Melbourne was deep in the midst of lockdown. Our city was under the most insane restrictions - we were banned from leaving the house unless you had to work (which you needed a permit for) needed to get groceries, had to see a doctor, or you were using your “1 hour a day” of exercise. Skating wasn’t included in this, and if anyone was caught skating outside the fine was an ungodly amount. I was losing my mind and needed something to channel my energy into, so I whipped out this looping pedal and started teaching myself how to use it. I would go to work in the morning, come home, and spend hours playing guitar and watching YouTube tutorial videos on how to correctly use my pedal. I’m sure I drove my housemates bonkers, but this is literally all I had. It’s surreal watching this video back, remembering how hopeless, depressed and alone I felt in this time. It honestly seemed like we would never see any kind of normality again. I’m really grateful to have been in a position where I could channel my energy into playing guitar, and I’m even more grateful I have these videos to look back on and re centre myself to appreciate the freedom I have to be on the other side of the world again today. ✈️ Fuck you forever covid.
