Zohra Opoku’s work featured in “Black Rock 40” was a project she developed while in residence at Black Rock alongside Senegalese sculptor Makhone Diop (@makhonediop), who was also invited to participate in the exhibition. Their collaboration explores many of the motifs found in Zohra’s work, but through the use of traditional Senegalese bronze techniques.
“During the Black Rock residency I began working on a new body of work: ‘The Myths of Eternal Life,’ which became an exercise that sought to be both healing and transformative. It reconnected and even let me step deeper into my praxis. It supported me in understanding the complexity of colour, which is a new element I introduced to my monochromatic work."
