CHEER season 2 is streaming on @netflix today. It will be many years before I can fully reflect on the experience of making this show, across a pandemic, through cycles of heartbreak and joy, chaos and structure, confusion and understanding, fully feeling everything in between. When you make a documentary and attempt to do so with integrity, you are in effect commiting to the wholeness of all life will throw at you - every perfectly beautiful and cruel moment of it. I am convinced for now atleast that it is the hardest thing I am capable of doing. Thank you @greggor11, @chelseaotter, and @leiboadam for trusting me to help you tell these stories. It will always mean the world to me. Making work like this requires an unfathomable amount of reciprocal trust and I’m fortunate to share that bond both with the cheer teams who let us into their worlds, despite all the risks - again - and to our entire crew who poured their lives into this.
