If there was one nutrition-related fact that I wish more people understood from a young age, it would be this ⬆️ . . Health is so individualized and there is no, single, one-size-fits-all diet that works best for everyone ❌Yet, diet culture tells us that we all need to cut out x,y,x or incorporate more of x to be “healthy” 🤥 as a GI dietitian, I specialize in digestive health and I work with individuals who need many therapeutic dietary interventions to manage GI conditions and symptoms. Oftentimes, diet culture is a huge barrier to making changes 💔 Why? . . Consider someone with IBS who opts for cauliflower rice and other products🍴 . Or someone with diarrhea who feels they need to be eating salads and tons of raw veggies 🥗 . Or someone with gastroparesis who was told a keto diet is the “best” diet 🧈🥑 . . The list goes on 📃 When I’m working with clients, sometimes concerns related to diet culture arise and these beliefs (while oftentimes not based on any real nutrition science) get in the way of people being able to make changes that can help their condition. Moreover, sometimes it is simply that the rules stemming from diet culture are causing the symptoms and this person may not even need a therapeutic djet - it may simply be a matter of making some simple dietary swaps and lifestyle changes 🤷🏻‍♀️ . . I also always ask that people consider that there are many reasons why someone may not be eating in a way that you deem “healthy” - ranging from dietary intolerances to budget/food security and everything in between 🫶 How someone else eats is no one’s business but their own 🙅🏻‍♀️and healthy can mean different things for different people 💜 . .
