Judicis of ita tempora rerum (Alcubiere Metric), 2018 - Puma skull, coke, brass triangle, hand-painted orange, metal table & velvet tablecloth. 180 x 140 x 12 cm / This series is based on a scientist Miguel Alcubierre’s speculative idea known as "Alcubierre Metric", which postulates that in order to travel faster than light it would be necessary to cut the space between the starting point and the destination point to reduce the time it takes to travel. Personally I consider this series pieces as sculptural analogies of this idea, which to a certain extent seems to be a magic trick and it is this resemblance that defines the shape of the table, as well as the structural and visual support of the elements placed on it, which are cut in half and separated by a small abyss on the surface of the table. These elements are deeply related to the contemporary human being; for example, the Coca-Cola bottle that more than a container has become a contemporary society symbol, the puma skull that for many will be the first to see and therefore question our distance from the natural world, the golden pyramid that refers to the value that geometry has for the development of society, or the tangerine that I use to talk about food values overlap over the product aesthetics. / This artwork will be part of my upcoming solo show that will be exhibited at @beiqiumuseum China, in August 2022 . . . #gabrielrico #gabrielricojimenez #gallerieperrotin #perrotin #perrotingallery #beiqiumuseum
