I’ve realized I haven’t shared much about my work experience on here. This account used to be just for posting pictures of test shoots and my styling work. Of course, it has since morphed into an influencer account because I’ve taken a step back from styling jobs, they’re too demanding, and the traveling just doesn’t fit my lifestyle anymore. I’ve loved fashion since I was young, so I’m incredibly grateful to have found a different way of working that still allows me to be creative while also providing flexibility. This topic has come up a few times recently, so I thought I’d share a bit about my work background since I often post fashion tips and ideas without much context! I studied Merchandise Product Development at FIDM, spent my first year in Orange County and my second year in SF. I considered continuing my education, but I landed a fashion job right out of school working in technical design. After a couple of years in SF, I moved to NY, where I met a good friend who was just starting her photography career. I began “styling” for her test shoots, not even realizing at the time that wardrobe styling was an actual job. Meanwhile, I worked in various fashion assistant roles in NY, as a showroom assistant, graphic design assistant, technical design assistant, and design assistant. I literally hustled my way through NY. It’s always been that way for me because I didn’t come from money and had to support myself. Eventually, I moved back to SF to be closer to my family (I’m originally from Southern CA). I worked a few corporate fashion jobs in marketing, merchandising, and photo production while also working on building my styling portfolio and connecting with other stylists. Over time, I built up enough styling work to transition into full time freelancing. Some things I’ve learned along the way. Yes, the mistreatment in the fashion industry can be just as bad as you’ve seen in The Devil Wears Prada, if not worse. You don’t need a degree to get ahead in fashion, it’s about who you know, confidence, and real-life work experience. Being stylish isn’t about having all the newest, trendiest clothes, it’s about making the most of what you already have ❤️
