Winter’s not quite over yet! ❄️ Cold 🥶 temperatures, brisk winds 💨 and low humidity dry out our skin and it’s important to adjust our skincare routine to keep our skin moisturized! 💦⁣ ⁣ We need heavier moisturizers during the dry winter months. Look for products 🧴 that contain humectants, emollients and occlusives. Humectants like hyaluronic acid and glycerin are helpful because they attract moisture and hydrate 💧 the skin, and you also need emollients like ceramides and squalene to support the skin barrier, as well as occlusives to lock in the moisture. Good occlusives include petrolatum, coconut 🥥 oil and 🐝 bee’s wax. ⁣ ⁣ We may also need to cut back on products that are potentially irritating ⚡️ to the skin like anti-aging 👵🏼 ingredients such as retinol and glycolic acid. A gentler alternative to retinol is bakuchiol, an extract of the Babchi plant 🌱 that stimulates collagen and elastin production, like retinol does, but without the irritation. And lactic acid 🧪 can be a gentler alternative to glycolic because it has a larger molecule size and also has humectant properties. And niacinamide is another great option that improves skin tone and texture without irritation.🎉⁣ ⁣ Thank you ⁣Christa Lee, @bustle and @teonaostrovpr !✨
