I’d been thinking about what to ask him if I’d ever had the chance to meet him. Of course, there were many things I wish I could’ve asked about if I had the time. Questions about fatherhood, spirituality, music concerts, and even current events. For if perspective is the trophy for those racing against ignorance then he seems to have already won all the awards. However, when I saw the dignitaries, chiefs, and public service officials lined up to meet him as well, I humbly accepted the fact that this would not be the time for extensiveness, and that I should try and narrow down my search for information to just one question I’d most like to use my opportunity to ask. And so I chose to ask him: “How do you keep your peace of mind with so much coming your way constantly?”... He took a pause, pondered his response, grabbed my shoulder and he said to me: “You have to constantly see the glass as half full, and actively remind yourself that things are never as bad as they look, and that they are never as good as they look either.” Which I responded “so you just gotta keep a level head and have balance”? Then he replied “that’s exactly it!” ... then right as I was walking away he said to me “And stay off of Twitter!” To which we both laughed as I kept it pushing. I share all of this to say this to you if you are reading... never allow your scales to be tipped so far to one or the other. Do not fall into despair nor into bliss.
