KURINDA (which directly translates to protection from Kinyarwanda) is a digital art series that explores my recent relationship with the idea of protection. Prior to Covid, I was moving through the world with an unwavering faith that nothing terrible or tragic could happen to me. That changed dramatically within the past few years. I noticed a significant shift in my sense of protection. So many things in my life were crumbling before my eyes and as a result, I started having more conversations with God. I noticed that a theme that constantly came up for me in my prayers was protection. I then started to think about why it’s a necessity to believe in protection. This world that we’re living in today is more unpredictable than ever and at times, life can feel cruel for some of us. From that point I started to visualize what my ancestors/ personal protectors might look like. What characteristics would they have? What kind of abilities would they have? Long story short, this is what my protection looks like and at my lowest points they whisper in my ear that everything is always working out for me ☄️🪐
