"Contrail" for Oakley This was a fun one! Before shooting even started, director @pw.hall approached me about about doing a rough "radio edit" for this Apollo 11-inspired Oakley piece. He sent me the creative and I had a lot of fun coming up with the rhythm of the piece from scratch; not something I normally get to do! After they shot, they used the stems from this radio edit to inspire the cut, and I came back in afterward to do a proper sound design and mix pass. Some SFX from that very first pass even made it all the way to the end! Working in this way was very cool, and allowed me to think in a much more abstract way than I do normally; I was able to focus on the "audio story" of the rocket taking off, rather than getting caught up in what each individual shot should sound like. For the reporter voices in the final, I replaced the scratch track of Pat and myself with a combination of Stept employees and professional voice actors. Mix-wise, I pulled a lot of low-mid frequencies out the rocket SFX at the end to help with music clarity.
