“Escaping creative tension is easy- the only price we pay is abandoning what we truly want, our vision.” This quotes been on my mind a lot lately and it would be dope to have a moment of sincerity with fellow artist, creative entrepreneurs, actors, musicians, anyone trying to pursue their personal treasure;
personally it’s been difficult to pursue anything that doesn’t immediately generate value/income. Is thinking about money the fastest way to kill creativity or can directly associating money with your art be a driving force for creativity? Can you create, simply for the sake of art, with no expectation of profit, if it requires a financial investment on your end? 30 year old me understands that being fiscally responsible means keeping expenses low while focusing on generating more income+saving but artist side of me believes I need to focus on creating (no matter the cost) the best work I can without being influenced by capital. The middle ground so far has been creating “ok” works or art in the couple hours of free time I have during the week and that doesn’t make me feel great artistically or responsible financially. How do you find your balance? How do you keep going after years of your hustle “not paying off”? No matter what, money has it’s place in art, where do you believe it belongs?
