This was a moment I captured while walking around Washington Square Park in NYC. It was a situation where any change in the light or even the slightest movement would have ruined the moment, so I had to act fast. After taking the photograph, I approached him to see if he’d like me to send it to him. We struck up conversation and he introduced himself as Keion (@keion211). He’s a self-published poet who had recently started painting in hopes of illustrating the essence of his poetry. I could hear the excitement in his voice as he told me about this new artistic endeavor, especially because a couple visiting from Paris had just bought every piece he had for sale several days prior. As it turned out, they were art collectors who own Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, KAWS, and Yayoi Kusama pieces. Despite the fact we only spoke for a couple minutes that day, I can tell you there’s something special about him. Keion is both talented and ambitious and will leave his mark on the world [Summer 2021].
