Colleen always told me that I would make Forbes 30 under 30 and I always thought to myself, “I wonder what I’d have to do to accomplish that?” It never crossed my mind that I’d already done enough. When I woke up and opened my email yesterday, I had to put my glasses on in disbelief. And to my surprise when I scrolled to the bottom, I saw that Misty Copeland (!!!) was a judge for my category — Art & Style. If you know me, you know that Misty is one of my biggest inspirations and when I was a dancer, her story gave me hope. She would’ve completely understood the essence of Brown Girl Hands — she lived it. She had to dye her dance shoes brown every season just like me. Someone asked me recently how BGH was doing and that I don’t share as much, which is true, but in the background Brown Girl Hands is the biggest it’s ever been. Thank you to everyone who’s ever worked with BGH, to my mom and friends for always lending a helping hand, and to Colleen for believing in this moment before I did.
