Recently, one of my guests brought their daughter in for dinner. They asked me what I felt was important advice as a female entrepreneur. More specifically, one that has been playing in a field that has been traditionally dominated by men. The truth for me is, it’s astonishing how alone you will find yourself when you move different. When you move different, or when you colour outside of the preconceived box they want to place you in, it makes people uncomfortable. You’re hard to control. They can’t understand it. Especially as a woman. Especially as a woman of colour. My advice: To be successful and to be happy, stop worrying about the box made by critics, onlookers and those who don’t know you. Stop trying to conform to it, because if you do, you’ll only be as successful as they allow you to be. Focus on your own art. Build your own world. Everyone else can just exist in it, if you even decide to grant them the privilege. PC: @williamhereford
