We are deeply saddened by the tragic news of a South Florida teenager who died by suicide last Thursday. This horrifying incident underscores the weight and urgency of addressing the youth mental health crisis in America and it coincided with HDRF’s youth symposium, concerned with this very issue. The symposium took place on October 6 at Palm Beach Atlantic University. The panel of mental health experts and advocates discussed the topic at the top of our cultural conversation, “Teenagers & Depression: Addressing the Youth Mental Health Crisis.” The program sparked thoughtful conversations with the student attendees who asked what depression warning signs to look out for and how to offer peer support within their communities. West Palm beach news affiliate, WPEC CBS 12 reported on the tragedy and HDRF’s educational program, bringing to the foreground this seriousness of this matter and the important education work HDRF is bringing to communities to promote open conversation around depression.
