*NEW DATE' Artists' Reflections: Olivia Plender and Ciprian Mureşan in conversation
This postponed event will now take place on zoom at 6:30 – 7:30pm, Tuesday 15 November.
In celebration of Drawing Room’s twentieth birthday, I will be looking back to the group exhibition ‘TINA’ which I curated in 2008, with participating artist Ciprian Mureşan. The show explored how the renewal of the creed of individualism in the 1980s, combined with free market capitalism, subsequently permeated all corners of everyday experience and social relations, from the global banking system to cultural production. Through their artworks, the artists challenged Margaret Thatcher’s notorious neo-liberal statement ‘there is no alternative’ (TINA for short). Presciently, the show opened less than a month after the start of the Global Financial Crisis of 2008. The exhibition included an international line up of artists including Petra Bauer, Pablo Bronstein, Melanie Gilligan, Goldin+Senneby, Anja Kirschner, Ciprian Muresan and Olivia Plender.
