Shell Cordovan dries on glass frames after hot stuffing. This process is similar to “pasting” with the main difference being we use very little heat. Chrome tanned leather tolerates relatively higher temperatures than vegetable tanned leather. Vegetable tanned leather that gets overheated may show cracks in mild cases and fall apart in worse cases. Drying gently, over as much time as it takes, ensures our Cordovan stays supple. The jug in the foreground betrays that pasting, and the subsequent cleanup of the frames for the next round, is a messy process.
