Views from April 22’ • It was the first time I’ve ever rode an airplane in my entire life ✈️ Although it was a quick & busy work trip, it was a fun experience. I haven’t really gone on a legit travel vacation trip at 23 years old, the closest thing was from early childhood when my family would stay at our relatives’ compound in the province during the summer. They lived 20 minutes away from the beach. My favorite memory was not going to the beach for a quick swim though. (I still can’t swim, to this day). Watching families be in community; eating together with neighbors each day, children growing up playing together, living in harmony with fruit bearing mango trees by their yards; that was my favorite. Growing up in an area where the only mango tree we had left was cut down because it was getting “too big”. Which resulted in destruction from termite infestations in houses around the area. Here, we don’t even see eye to eye with our neighbors, I didn’t have friends. I admit as a child I looked at my cousin’s compound in rose-colored glasses..I mean, to me it looked like it was a fiesta every day. Deep down I knew it wasn’t perfect for them either but the desire for deeper connection within community prevails. I’m ready for a life with more connection, joy, adventure and travel.
