Hugo Sand and his son Ivan own the tea farm that held the workshop I shot in Misiones Province in Argentina @departures. Hugo’s father came over from Finland and began growing tea, which thrives in this environment. But nowadays just a few huge beverage conglomerates in cahoots with the Argentinian government control the price of tea leaves, which is pennies per pound. The tea then gets used for cheap bottled iced tea, much of which we drink in the States. So Hugo, Ivan, and some of their neighboring farmers are trying to learn and invest in more traditional Chinese methods of making artisanal tea that they can sell for a sustainable price.
