Their pelvic fins are modified to form a suction cup allowing them to fasten onto rocks, corals, or research equipment, and hold tight in strong currents. MBARI's remotely operated vehicle got a great view of this snailfish's suction cup. ⁠ ⁠ This species, Careproctus_longifilis, is also known as the threadfin snailfish.
