The Australian photographer & author @robynleaphotography is a sensational burst of sunlight: a creative woman bubbling with visual talent but also deep kindness. Ill never forget the interview she did with me during the 1st Covid lockdown which was one of the deepest, most authentic conversations I’ve ever had with a journalist. She truly cared where my creativity was sourced from - both the joy and the pain - and never shuddered at any of it. In fact she allowed me to access even deeper levels of it. That’s the sign of a great Co-creator. She gathered a sensational mix of 20 creative women around the globe for her book “A room of her Own” and we celebrated 15 of them at home in Milan at the close of the Salone. Our evening together had all the trappings of a regular party but also something more: a circle of sharing about what it’s like to be a creator in todays world, how to handle the darkness that inevitable comes when we are in the birth/death/rebirth cycle and how to feel supported by other women going through the same process. Each woman here had some special story to share or at least a knowing nod of the fear or anxiety that comes from plucking the jewels out of our heart and placing them out under the hot sun of exposure, judgment or sometimes failure. At the end of the day, creativity is more necessary as an internal human process rather than a material thing to hold in your hand to show to others. I loved this evening and we plan to do more of these.
