Over the past ten years, 2.5 million people have died from drowning. This World #DrowningPreventionDay, we must spread awareness of this silent epidemic​. Fortunately, these deaths are preventable by implementing simple measures. In Bangladesh, we’ve seen decreases in drowning-related deaths among children enrolled in our child care centers, and in Vietnam we’ve trained over 15,000 children in survival swim instruction. We’ve also supported data collection in Uganda and Ghana to better understand the circumstances of drowning so evidence-based programs can be developed. We must continue to sustain and scale efforts to save more lives.
