25 YEARS OF BALLYKEEFFE: FIFE AND DRUM BAND
Throughout its history the Ballycallan Fife and Drum band has played at many events including the Monster meeting in Ballingarry with Fr. Murphy in 1885, St. Patricks day parades, the homecoming of Fr. Ronan in 1950, Feiles, Kilkenny Senior Hurling county finals and underage All Ireland's for U-20 and Minors in Nowlan park. The band supported tournaments such as in Callan last Saturday 16th August. The Wellie Race charity fundraiser is a regular yearly event. The also played at the opening of Ballycallan renovated church and Tom Ryall Park in Kilmanagh.
The band’s success is due to the dedication of the members, many of whom are 4th and 5th generations from the same families. It’s make-up also contains members married and living in the parish from other counties or who return home just for big events. The members are great community people and come from all walks of life, business and sporting backgrounds. Hurling and camogie players lined the ranks with some members recently as part of the 25th anniversary Kilkenny All-Ireland winning team in Croke park a few weeks ago.
The band marked the opening of the Amphitheatre twenty-five years ago and are delighted to be part of the 25th anniversary event. “We congratulate all the organisers on their vision and dedication in making the venue the success that it is today.”
