After spending a week in Rio in March, here are some of my favorite spots! Check out some fun facts and what you need to know before visiting below👇🏼
Did you know that Rio only has a one hour time difference from NYC?! ⏰
It’s the perfect place to work remotely from, especially given that it’s warm and inexpensive, and has great beaches, food, nature, city sights, and the friendliest people. It reminded me a lot of Mexico City, but even better because it’s coastal 🏖️🇧🇷
🚨 SAFETY 🚨
We had heard a lot of bad things about safety in Rio, especially as three women traveling there, but I can honestly say that we never felt unsafe at all or encountered anything sketchy during our entire trip. I would even be fine traveling solo there.
We were definitely vigilant about our belongings and rarely had our phones out in public 📱 As long as you stick to more touristy neighborhoods like Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon, Santa Teresa (although be careful about which areas), and Botafogo and do not wander near the favelas, you will be more than fine. However, I personally think they get a bad rep, and would visit again in a heartbeat.
I would also stay in a hotel over an Airbnb there unless you’re in a large group 🏨 We stayed at the @windsorhoteis in Copacabana and felt so well taken care of by the staff there. The room had everything we needed, and the views from their rooftop pool were stunning. I miss it already and want to go back 🥲
Let me know if you have any questions about Rio, and I hope you get to visit one day! ✈️
