I am praying for our Puerto Rican siblings. They have continually been failed by the US government. They did not have the support that they needed to recover from Maria or to prepare for the current hurricane.
Despite the lack of rights, aid and protection, they continue to rise up, to care for each other and to demonstrate their strength, even in the face of disaster and danger. They will be the only heroes of their story.
Follow @blackpuertoricanphd for more information about how to support people on the island as they battle Hurricane Fiona and beyond this disaster.
Reposted from @blackpuertoricanphd Five years after Hurricanes Irma and María hit Puerto Rico, devastating the entire archipelago, this is what Puerto Rico looks like today.
The Puerto Rican people are still reeling from the destruction and trauma of the last five years. They knew this would happen again. They said this would happen again. The U.S. and local governments ignored their cries, gave them Band-Aid solutions, and here we are again, with Puerto Rico and its people under water.
