🌿 As the landscape of the Earth changes how is the landscape of our mind affected ? This is a brilliant book, Loosing Eden, Why our minds need the wild by @lucyfjones 🌿 It starts as a personal account of her experience with addiction, depression and how nature can help us come to terms with these cycles and our traumas. She went searching for research and travelled from forest schools in East London to the Svalbard Global Seed Vault via primeval woodlands, Californian laboratories and ecotherapists' couches. There are so many brilliant layers in this book, deeply connecting through the lenses of psychoanalysis, science, design and social justice 🌿 I love the focus continually being drawn to the the role of language. We are losing our emotional and environmental literacy, for example dictionaries are eliminating words for plants in place of words that describe tech. We are finding new words to describe what is happening right now ‘endling’ species extinction, expressing our loss of connection, loss of place and things coming to an end. 🌿 She explores solutions and the role of re connecting to nature in big cities through Biophilc design, enhancing biodiversity in built up areas, hospitals and to those most vulnerable. These sites are such beautiful visions I wanted to share them in the slides. I will share a bit more from this book in the coming days. The book keeps coming back to the question, As we lose our bond with the natural world-might we also be losing part of ourselves?
