When Candace Holyfield made $6,000 in three days, working as a massage therapist on Groupon, it changed her life. Before that, she'd been a waitress for 13 years. "I had never made this type of money," she says. "It was a really, really big deal to me." She went on to make $300,000 through Groupon, opened her own spa, and eventually founded her own consulting business for Black spa owners, @sixfigurespachick. In the past decade she's taught over 15,000 clients her Groupon secrets, and helped them build bigger, more profitable brands. She also created the first Black spa expo, and the first Black Spa Awards.“ To this day, African Americans are not dominating the spa industry whatsoever,” she says. “But now Black people are making some real money as entrepreneurs, and that’s a big deal.”
