BTS✨From Chinatown, With Love: Ting’s Gift Shop, 18 Doyers St.✨ Shoot number eleven!! Okay this one might be the most personal to me because it is very nostalgic and specific to my own childhood experience 😭. Ting’s gift shop, located on the corner of Pell and Doyers, is one of Chinatown’s best kept secrets! If you love collecting knick knacks and admiring vintage collectible art pieces or games and toys, you must check this place out. There are items there that I haven’t thought about or seen in years. I first asked Gary @wingonwoandco to custom build a shelf piece to display everything I was going to put in it. It needed these hi-low shelves to imitate the levels that I remember having on my bunk bed cabinets. Collecting (or hoarding) random things as a child––from stickers and gel pens to beanie babies and paper stars––was an essential part of this vision. I mixed items from my childhood (the chapter books and stationary) with Ting’s products (the opera doll, green horse, lotus tassel, miniature toys) and Mei’s cousin’s personal items as well (Ty babies, star jars): all things that I truly recollect owning at one point to fill the fixture. Look closely and you’ll notice some Easter eggs! 👀 This was such a fun trip down memory lane for Mei and I when we gathered everything, I hope many of you are also able to relate!!
