Indigenous content creator Sherry Mckay uses comedy to uplift her audience, making TikTok videos that feature humour from an Indigenous perspective. • She has half a million followers on the platform, with her videos getting anywhere from 10k to 21 million views. • Mckay, from Sagkeeng First Nation, said her journey began with YouTube and wanting to use the skills she had learned in school. • Eventually, Mckay started making comedy content based on her experience being raised in poverty and around alcoholism. • “I think when you can relate to people based off of some of your hardships, it just makes it feel like you’re not alone,” she said. • “There’s people that are still in that space of coming out of those things, coming out of poverty, coming out of addictions. And when I talk about it, I like to use humour.” • To read more, click the link in our bio. • • • Story: Jennifer Francis/CBC Video: Kevin Nepitabo/CBC • #cbcindigenous
