This is what you missed if you weren’t in attendance Saturday when @mattcostamusic welcomed @kelp_fried and I to open up the evening. The plan was to project my animation while my longtime friend Landon played some tunes. Turns out the venue didn’t have a screen and they absolutely would not let us hang a sheet. I was a bit exasperated at first, but then I just accepted that my expectations for the evening would have to change. At some point pre show Matt pointed the projector at me and we instantly knew that we had found the solution. I would be the screen. And so I was. I stood onstage while Landon played his tunes. We got a kick out of it, the audience got a kick out of it, and I think it ended up being more memorable than if everything had gone to plan. I’ve been getting pretty good at divorcing myself from expectations, and this was a great reminder to stay with that process. I think that when we release our expectations we open ourselves up to joy and can live more fully in the moment.
