10 years today #nocolonstillrollin 🙏 📹: @ryan.moss
I can’t believe it’s been 10 years. It feels like yesterday and at the same time a million years ago. Like a weird dream or something. December 4th has become my second birthday of sorts. A reminder that health is wealth. And most of all a reminder to do the things that make you feel alive with the people you love, as long as humanly possible.
Ulcerative Colitis and Crohns affects more than 10 million people world wide. And the life saving surgeries I had were only discovered in 1980.
I’ve always said getting sick was the best worst thing that ever happened to me because it put life into perspective in a way only something like that could.
10 years feels crazy though. I was thinking about things I’ve learned and the word Vahewa keeps coming to mind. Vahewa is something said often in Fiji and it means go slowly. Over the years Fiji has become a place for me to disconnect to reconnect. And I was lucky to spend a bit of time there this year doing just that. But it’s something I forget to do on a daily basis. My whole life I’ve always been in a rush. Most of us are. A rush to grow up. A rush to get from A to B. A rush to get things done. A rush to get healthy when I was sick. Always impatiently trying to avoid the in between. But finding comfort in the uncomfortable is where all the magic happens. Sometimes life throws you a curve ball and makes you slow down. And sometimes that’s exactly what you need and where the best stuff happens.
Health is wealth.
