Our final goodbye - To Those I Love One year ago I draped a cloth over my husbands casket and followed it hand in hand with my daughters down the center aisle of our church. How Great Thou Art played on the organ. I watched family and friends climb the alter to deliver readings, and climbed it myself to give his eulogy. I watched my children hold their fathers funeral program. Staring blankly at his photo wondering where their dad was. Hopeful they would see him again. How unfair it seemed. I look at all of us in these videos and remember the despair. How hopeless we felt. And I feel such sadness for them. So fearful of the future and how we could live another day as a family with a giant missing piece. Our life is different. Grief and death have transformed us. But what I can tell you is the last year has taught us an immeasurable amount about the joy and gift of life. We love and live more purposefully. Thanking God each day for this beautiful gift and for each other. If you are embarking down this lonely road or are in the midst of it..lean on your people.
