How Sweet It Is
Horse shows, much like armies, run on their stomachs. Of course, the horses need to keep food in their stomachs, but it’s equally important for their human counterparts, and since 1984, the Johnson family of Pickerington, Ohio, has been filling this need.
The Sweet Shop mobile food trailers are staples at shows across the country, from the All American Quarter Horse Congress to the AQHA World Championship Show and many others. It all started when patriarch Jim Johnson, a businessman and baker who had opened some Mister Donut franchises, saw the opportunity to go mobile. As his wife, Barbara, and their three children, Nick, Chris and Jessica, began showing horses, the food trailers were Jim’s way to be involved.
Today, Nick and Chris have taken over the food business from their semi-retired parents, while Jessica is an AQHA Professional Horsewoman. Read more about their family venture and their mouth-watering creations, including famous homemade cinnamon rolls, in the November-December Quarter Horse Journal.
