Define a goal (I), 2017 - Knife, acrylic & metal 20 x 3 x 4 cm / It ́s a sculpture in which the contrast of the form and function of an object (knife) result in a suggestion close to self-complacency from a possibility to perform an action that could put at risk the integrity and physical health of the viewer. The height that the knife has, in relation to the floor, is the same as the height between the floor and the artist's throat. It ́s a sculpture that advocates the aesthetic value on the utilitarian value of an object, which partially cancels the possibility of its use in terms outside the context of art. The knife is antique, with approximately 60 years old, coming from the area known as "El Bajío" in Mexico, where one of the first factories of acrylic plastic (Plexiglas) was opened; the materials used to make the grip of the knife, comes from the waste of this factory. The title of the piece refers to the occasion in which a goal can be defined from a principle assumed by the forceful use that can be given to an object and thus clearly define the object itself as a way to achieve it. . . . #gabrielrico #perrotin #galeriaomr
