Originally from Dijon and Avignon, France, Marine and Gautier Henaff grew up riding horses, and met on the European rodeo circuit. Their life’s journey opened up in a big way on a visit to the Rockies of Alberta. “We come from a small country with a lot of people,” says Gautier. “The first time we arrived in Alberta, we opened the car door and saw so much space and landscape. It was breathtaking. It was a brand new world for us. We’d never had that feeling before of true freedom.” They’ve since made Alberta their home, and are now living their western dream, raising three horses, a dog, and a cat against an epic Rocky Mountain backdrop. “It can be hard when it’s minus 20 degrees outside and snowing, and you have to feed the horses—but you have to do it,” says Marine. Still, she adds, “if someone told us three years ago we’d be in photos for Stetson in Alberta, we would not have believed it."
