First and foremost Botox and Dysport do not last longer than 3 to 4 months. Typically you see the peak results during the first eight weeks then the product gradually leaves your body so you will start to see movement around 6 to 8 weeks. You will not be frozen for the whole 3 to 4 months that is a major misconception. Many people do not get enough units. I personally use 100 units if not more on myself. Do not get hooked up on a number. Patients will typically come to my office from leaving another injector and say oh well I wasn’t really happy with that last injector and then when I go to inject them they tell me how many units they need and what their last injector did, if you are not getting the results you want you need to use more units usually.I tend to notice that a lot of patients work out a lot because they take care of their bodies and they want to look good. People think that it’s their metabolism that is burning through the Botox but that is not true. What is really happening is that these patients are actually using their muscles when they work out by making faces while they lift or strain. They usually tend to not have a lot of fat on their face. This can be the case for people who don’t work out at all, and they just have naturally lean faces. If you do not have a lot of collagen between your muscle and skin, you will see the muscle moving when it’s not paralyzed in the skin wrinkle to on top of it. 4. As we age, we will need more units. What you were doing at 20 years old will not be the same as what you were doing in your 30s 40s and so on. 5. We recommend that patient see the Botox or Dysport every 3 to 4 months. Taking a break for longer than six months is OK. If you are not routinely doing your Botox or Dysport every four months you will not get the full benefit from it.
