SHOW 2022: Shanti Bell @shantibell_ Now, I hear you - A project which explores the complex layers of father and son relationships and creates an opportunity where the sons’ emotions are heard and listened to. Through sound the drummers represented sons who within that moment were playing (expressing) their emotions, giving way to a space which offers the freedom to fly. This body of work that comes from somewhere deep within a personal space which as I ventured I realised it was very much a shared one. Parent and child, father and son relationships, are ever present and flow through society. Within that dynamic we are all both observers and participants, it is both simple, yet complex. Its push and pull comes naturally as hearts are involved, and much like a drum rhythm, shifts of repetition, tempo, climax, tension and moments of calm narrate this relationship timeline. We all do things ‘a little way different’, the freedom and acceptance to be your own way is what allows us to truly flourish in our uniqueness. Much like kites in the wind we don’t know everything but through trust and embrace we can soar.
